Shepton Montague church was the RV for our first post lockdown walk. A tester to see how we felt being let out again. I’d seen a post from Oliver Downing about the pathways through the local orchards being opened, so although we guessed we had missed the trees being laden with blossom for this year, we decided to take a short walk around the area in an anti-clockwise route from the church. After a short climb onto a slight ridge, the pleasure of living in such a beautiful area became apparent. Lock down had restricted our countryside views somewhat so to have a good panorama stretching around from “The Monty” just in front of us to Creech Hill in the distance was simply breathtaking. Clear blue skies, birds on the wing and very little else disturbed the morning.
Our search for the ubiquitous Somerset orchards was not going too well mind. The pathway took us south west towards the far end of the village, but having encountered a horse in a field, we took the sensible choice to side step the official route and make a line across to the track which would lead us back round.
Just about an hour's walk, enough to stretch the legs and catch up on all the family news since March. It was definitely the start of bigger and better things to follow.
