We are all told, “live your life to the fullest”; So as a group of men with many various health issues we intend to do just that and prove that men do actually talk about their health issues and concerns.
Following the Covid lockdown in 2020 we have expanded to include other friends and neighbours and also friends of friends from the Wincanton, Bruton & Castle Cary area. We have been nicknamed 'The Walking Dead' by one of the groups children.
We try to get out most Saturdays for heathy walks at different locations within 30 minutes travelling time. On average we walk around 4 miles with a good bit of light hearted banter, culminating with a well earned breakfast.
Read the tales of the walks, with accompanying photos and route map and make sure you revisit for weekly updates.

Blandford Forest
Sat 6 Dec ‘25. DH, RW, PCL, DL, JB, CH, Scrumpy & Albus The rain we dodged last weekend had certainly returned in bucket loads during the week and so with the ground damp all around the local counties I decided a walk on good forest tracks would be our best option today, it was just a question of which and where. A good trawl over the green patches on the OS map to the south of our 30 minute area, I identified a large area of woodland in which we have not previously walked so

Congresbury Christmas walk rained off!
Sat 29 Nov ‘25. DH, RW, AC, PCL, DL, JB, JS, DH, SW, RC, CCL, ML, AB, JS Due to a very rainy forecast on Friday at 16.00 for Saturdaythe walk that was plan by Adrian and Ruth around Congresbury the walk was cancelled. (The route through the fields was already extremely muddy from the rain over the last few weeks). We had planned to start from the house, to the weir, past the fish and chip shop, winding around, meeting the Strawberry line and making our way back in a zig zag r

White Horse in the wind
Sat 22 Nov ‘25. DH, RW, TO, BFS, PCL, DL, Albus & Maisie This week had seen the first couple of frosty days of this winter, with low temperatures but great visibility under clear blue skies so it was looking hopeful that it might last through to Saturday morning, but unfortunately for us the high pressure shifted allowing the southerly air flow to pull in warmer air with plenty of wind and rain forecast for Saturday morning. When I found out who was available for selection t

Mist tree tour
Sat 15 Nov ‘25. DH, PCL, DL, JB, JS & Ralph Thankfully Storm Claudia passed through the area twenty four hours previous to todays walk, so assuming all the ground would be pretty sodden I opted for a walk predominantly on good hard tracks and roads this week. Having already selected the Old Red Lion as our breakfast location, the obvious choice was to repeat a walk we last completed well before most of todays walkers had even joined this illustrious group. The morning starte

Autumn in Stourhead woods
Sat 8 Nov ‘25. DL, JB, CH, JS & Albus A Wincanton based group this week with Red Leader and Deputy on different duties. JB and DL had come together the previous Wednesday to plan the route and a reconnoitre it with Albus. JS picked the group up on route at the 8am mark and we together headed off for the familiar main NT carpark at Stourhead arriving easily by 8:30 am (free parking due to membership). Booted up and with appropriate waterproofs we set off down the road toward

Brian returns to the fold
Sat 1 Nov 25. DH, RW, BS, DL, CH, JB, JS Scrumpy & Albus It was back in May ‘24 that Brian last walked with us on a Saturday, so it was good to have him join back in again today. In that time he has missed around seventy walks and breakfasts including many new areas and cafes, and of course all the banter that goes on each weekend. Having stopped because of the pain in his hip, the new one fitted in Shepton Mallett hospital back in the summer has now settled well enough for h

Them shoes aren’t made for walking
Sat 25 Oct ‘25. DH, RW, TO, JB, CH, JS, Scrumpy & Maisie Having ventured further afield and with just small numbers in the last few weeks, it was good to be more local again and with a solid group of six of us ready and raring to go. My usual, method of sorting out each weeks walk these days is to find the cafe first and then sort out a route. I keep a list of dates we have visited tall the fifty plus cafes we have used to date but am always on the look out for a new venue t

All’s well that ends in Wells
Sat 18 Oct 25. DH, RW, AC, DL, JB, RC & Scrumpy It was yet another week of low numbers with only three from Wincanton and just Richard from the Northern group today, so I opted for another new walking area on the edge of our self imposed time radius. Having deciphered an early morning pleas for back bags, we picked up Rich & Scrumpy up at 08.15 and had a good run across from Bruton arriving in Wells less than thirty minutes later. I had mentioned on the way over we would be m

Albus smells the bacon
Sat 11 Oct ‘25. DH, DL, JB, JS & Albus Another week of just four Wincanton walkers so we headed a little bit further south west than previously to the village of Norton-sub-Hamdon, which sits about half a mile below and to the west of Ham Hill Country Park. We parked up in the village hall and primary school car park and once ready to go headed off onto the open fields by the village hall. Todays route would be a clockwise loop out to the Chisleborough ridge, an area I have p
