Bayford & Snag Farm
Keeping ever more safe with our pairings, this week it was whoever lived closest to each other to walk together, so I made the 20m journey to Peter’s door for a walk over Windmill Hill, through Bayford and Snag Farm.
A steady Climb up Ireson Lane and round to Windmill Farm before passing the end of Pen Mill and the drop down to Bayford Lodge. A lot of fencing has been constructed in the area and I must say the real shame is the large avenue of trees has now become inaccessible to walk through. I appreciate it’s never been a right of way, but with snow on the ground it was really a magical piece of woodland so close to home. The new fences, whilst I appreciate are there to keep the sheep in the fields, have no easy crossing for dogs by the stream. The most common dog friendly gate these days is the lifting post, the dogs even seem to queue in the right place, so today it was a case of lifting the big lump over the fence. Hopefully just a fencing error waiting to be corrected.
turning right up the track, we passed the recently dug pond, which I’m sure will be a haven for wildlife in times to come, and of course makes a beautiful foreground for the renovated property, not sure the same can be said for us 2 mugs in front for the selfie!
On reaching the main road, a short discussion took place about the next step, were we out for a short walk, or one a bit longer? As we had made it so far in good time, it was left turn, up to the Unicorn ( will it ever reopen??) and then right towards the A303 underpass, retracing our path from one of our first post lockdown 1.0 walks.
On reaching Snag Farm, we followed the public right of way through the farmyard and past the sight of the “Old Faithful” crash in 1944. I won’t repeat the story here but for those who want to know more, take a look at the article on the WincantonWindow from the 2019 memorial service & photo from the 2004 parade, with yours truly as Parade Marshal for the day.
Another good walk keeping within the permitted rules. It will be so good to get out again as a group again somepoint.
